[CSR] CASSE/RAPPEL support amortisseurs arrières.

Hello,
"CSR 260 Rear suspension mounts. An observation.
At Donington Park, Caterham Cars Race Mechanics invited CSR owners to have their rear suspension mounts ‘inspected’, as it gave the company an opportunity to explore the expanding story of a ‘critical failure’ assembly component that is still being fitted to the CSR 485 model shipping into Europe.
Apparently, there is no traceable ‘batch’ associated with the 11 failures to date, and the suppliers insist the part is a consistently engineered part.
When it fails, the rear damper explodes through the driveshaft, so it really is a critical concern that has attracted the attention of the DVSA.
At Donington, I leapt at the opportunity of learning what the problem was, and where and how to check your own vehicle. So here’s what I learned/was advised. Picture 1 is the Caterham mechanic’s reference, with a line scored into the ‘failure area’, where a crack will appear.
Pictures 2 and 3 show my own mounts, carefully cleaned and photographed at Donington by the Caterham race mechanics. Both of my mounts look far more ‘metallic’ than the Caterham reference picture, and the race mechanics seemed happy with the current state. So I drove home (to SE22) without any ongoing anxiety.
But I hope this is helpful to all CSR owners out there, so they can dive under their cars with a torch and a camera, and know what they’re looking for.
The very fact that there have been 11 failures among only 500 or so builds makes this a concern for CSR owners everywhere, and a bit of an engineering/construction issue for Caterham.
I hope this somewhat detailed piece serves a useful informational purpose for CSR owners out there.
And there is a 3rd party replacement part out there, which has not undergone any of the manufacturer testing and safety validation that Caterham parts will be subject to. So if you opt for that, you’re on your own, even if it’s a mechanically superior part.
If it goes to the DVSA as a concern, CSRs could be off the road for a while, but the solution will be the responsibility of Caterham Cars to solve for."
