Hi there !
First of all, congrats for the excellency of your drawings ...
I'm part of a french forum board of seven enthousiasts (sevener.free.fr/forum). I was wondering if it was possible to buy the book on "building sevens" itself.
In case the answer is "yes, you can", can I ask some more details on the book (how many pages, size, price, etc ?), and on the payment/shipment (price of the postage to France, possible to pay using paypal ?)
Thanks a lot,
MC
I was pleased and curious to receive your email.
Where did you find out about To Build a Seven?
First, yes you can order a copy of the book. This requires a short explanation.
To Build a Seven has never been published in the conventional sense.
It is a book, and has an ISBN number issued in Ottawa.
The book is 100 pages, 8½” X 11”, with about 80 drawings, the majority in colour.
[In a typical 8”x 5.5” book format it would run about 200 pages,
but the drawings would have to be greatly reduced in size.
There are to date 14 copies, hardcover in full colour. The first was printed about three months ago.
Peter Egan of Road & Track has read and enjoyed the book.
Due to the small, if enthusiastic audience the story is aimed at,
I have never seriously looked for a publisher. I have gone a different route : Apple computer offers a service for people putting together photo albums.
I have adapted their technology, freeing up their layouts, and can now do pretty much what I want to.
Certainly more than the average publisher would be willing to pay for I think.
Each book is ordered and printed and shipped separately.
I picked Apple over other companies offering similar services, because of their consistent high quality.
The only hint that Apple prints it however, is the logo on the protective box the book comes in.
Think of the book as the 21st century equivalent of the manuscript being passed around amongst the author’s friends,
except that it’s a book, not a handwritten manuscript.
But like the 19th century manuscript it has a very small circulation.
It is ironic that technology has allowed some of us to be Luddites again:
individual craftsmen, small volume, quality, and no factory.
The disadvantage is the price, $125. U.S., once taxes and shipping are added.
To France it may be slightly more in shipping. You don’t pay until you have the book in your hands.
It takes Apple about 48 hours to print the book and a week or so to ship it to me.
I mail it to you, signed if you want. Once you have the book you pay me.
It would save time if it sent directly to the reader
but Apple won’t do this outside the country of origin, in this case Canada, as technically the book is printed for me.
If I lived in France it would take 7 to 10 days and go directly to you.
I hope this helps, not hinders. Let me know.

Je trouve le "bouquin" très chouette, mais sans moi pour cette opération.
J'opte en priorité pour l'achat des half-hoods, que je viens de commander.
A bientôt pour une autre folie.![]()
